Opening ceremony 2009 Champions League Twenty20

Cricket BallEntertaining opening ceremonies aren’t just for the Olympic Games and Superbowl finals, and the first Champions League Twenty20 tournament intends to demonstrate that on Thursday 8 October, 2009. Whilst we aren’t expecting a ceremony that lasts all day, we do know that a start-studded line-up has been booked for the opening of the Champions League Twenty20 tournament.

The first game of the Champions Twenty20 tournament starts at 20:00 IST (14:30 GMT), but the opening ceremony begins at 18:45 IST (13:15 GMT), so we can expect around an hour of celebratory fund before the serious cricket action gets underway. Stars that have been confirmed to feature in the opening ceremony include:

Shaggy – The hugely popular reggae singer exploded onto the international music scene in the 1990’s, scoring hits with songs such as ‘Oh Carolina’ and ‘Boombastic’. There have been plenty of hits for Shaggy since then, but whether he chooses to treat the Twenty20 fans with a newer song or one of his older classics, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Chaka Khan – Chaka Khan recorded her first album in 1978, and the American singer-songwriter has never looked back. Her hits are numerous, and include ‘I’m Every Woman’ and ‘Ain’t Nobody’.

Jamelia – This talented young British singer has been making headlines in the R&B industry since the late nineties. We don’t know if she’s a fan of Twenty20 cricket, but she will certainly have a few fans of her own among the crowd in Bangalore.

Even more big names are promised for the opening ceremony and we fully expect a start-studded occasion, as the official promoters have promised. However, no matter how good the opening ceremony of the 2009 Champions League Twenty20 cricket tournament is, there can be no doubt that the real action begins at 20:00 IST (14:30 GMT) when the Royal Challengers Bangalore take on Cape Cobras in the first match.

We can’t wait!
